Foundation soiree!

Hello lovelies :)

I've mentioned previously that buying foundation has always been difficult for me. My skin is so pale (think Casper the Ghost or a snowman) and I often find that a lot of brands, particularly high-street brands, do not cater for very fair skin. As I write this, I am immediately taken back to the days of caking on at least two shades too dark Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, which made my face look like  an old carpet. Eurgh.
However, my choice in foundation is a little more suited to my skin nowadays, so I thought I'd do a mini review of my collection and rate them on colour, finish, price, the overall appearance they left me with and added bonuses like whether they had SPF and the packaging of the product.
SO, without further ado;
this is my foundation collection as it currently stands. I had a few bottles of high street foundation that I had forgotten existed so I chucked them and narrowed it down to these five. Let's have a look and see if they hit the three C's - colour, consistency and coverage.

L-R: L'oreal infallible, Revlon Photo Ready, Diorskin Nude, MAC Face and Body and The Body Shop's Extra Virgin Minerals.

1. L'oreal Infallible foundation in shade 15 (Porcelaine)

This was a bit of a hit and miss for me. I read very mixed reviews either raving or hating this but as all products work differently for each person, I decided to give it a try.
Colour - lovely. Very well suited to my pale skin, and didn't leave a horrible orange line around my jaw and hairline, a problem I have had with many high-street foundations.
Consistency - I actually found this quite hard to work with. Maybe because my skin is more on the dry side, I can't quite put my finger on it. I have used various brushes, a sponge and finger application and it just isn't working for me, no matter how much I try!
Coverage - light. Evens out skin but not suited to someone who wants to cover blemishes.

Overall - this isn't necessarily a bad foundation. It just isn't for me. The colour is so lovely, it really is a shame it doesn't work. Picked this up for £12.29, a little on the higher end for a high-street foundation but worth the price if it works I suppose. Added bonus of SPF 15.

2. Revlon Photo Ready foundation in shade 002 (Vanilla)

Colour - as with Infallible, this is a wonderful colour! Not orange at all, really matches my skin to a tee!
Consistency - Silky, smooth and moisturising. This applies well with all brushes and hands, but I find the best application for me is with my ELF powder brush. Very easy to work with and leaves my skin looking dewy and glowing.
Coverage - medium. Covers flaws quite well and evens out skin tone beautifully. It is also buildable so if I need a little extra coverage I can add an extra layer to cover imperfections.

Overall - the biggest flaw in this foundation for me is that I cannot wear it during the day. This is because it does have a 'glittery' appearance in natural daylight and makes me look like a disco ball. However, great for night time as the glitter is hardly noticeable. I do also prefer a more natural coverage, but this isn't bad at all. Got this in Superdrug for £12.99, so again, a little on the pricier side but  worth it for me. It also has SPF 20, which is great!

3. DIORSKIN Nude in 010 (Ivory)

Colour - LOVE IT! The photo's do not do it justice, it is the perfect match for my skin. It is the lightest in the range and it is just the best match I have in my current foundation collection.
Consistency - Beautiful. Silky, blends like a dream. It is so hydrating and moisturising, I think this is the only foundation I have ever owned that I would not NEED moisturiser on with. I like using my fingers to apply this foundation.
Coverage - light-medium. It is in no way full coverage but this makes my skin look absolutely flawless and so healthy and glowing! It evens out my skin tone and covers minor imperfections, which  is ideal for me because my skin is generally well behaved and clear.

Overall - I think it is clear I cannot sing the praises of this enough! Dream in a bottle! It certainly justifies the expensive *cough* £31 *cough* price tag. I really had to weigh the pros and cons of buying this but I'm so glad I did! Will be doing a full review in the very near future. 2 thumbs up :)

4. MAC Face & Body in C1

Colour - I was actually a little worried about this when I first tried it out because it looked a little orange, but honestly it is so sheer that it blends out to match my skin tone.
Consistency - very watery. Very comparable to a tinted moisturiser in my opinion. Thin and easy to work with because it doesn't dry immediately.
Coverage -  Light. As said above, comparable to a tinted moisturiser. I use this on a day to day basis for work because it is very natural, my skin but better type deal :) perfect for me.

Overall - not a lot to say because I have a full review here. It cost £25.50, again on the expensive side HOWEVER you get a whacking 4OZ (120ml) which is roughly 4x the amount of most foundations. I can see this lasting me a long time. Doesn't contain SPF which is a downer, but I rectify this by using skincare products with SPF.

5. TBS Extra Virgin Minerals Cream Compact in shade 102 (Natural Ivory)

Colour - not as light and suited as my other foundations, but still wearable. I have to seriously blend this so I don't have a visible foundation line.
Consistency - Actually lovely. Very creamy, which I'm not used to as I have only liquid foundations other than this. But I really enjoy working with this. As you can see in the third picture, it blends out seamlessly but I do find this a little drying after a couple of hours wear. That surprised me as it has a very oily feel when applying.
Coverage - medium coverage. Pretty good at concealing imperfections, this is something I would feel comfortable using if my skin was playing up.

Overall - not overly impressed. The formula is okay, the colour is okay, the packaging is okay - you get my drift. It isn't a stand out product to me and not worth the £16 odd price tag. Does however have SPF15 so not all bad :)

So those are my foundations.  My faves are my Dior and my Mac foundation and I think it justifies my thinking that it is worth splurging on a foundation because if the base isn't right, the rest of your make up doesn't look right either.

Foundation wishlist...

Why, oh why, is my wishlist so damn expensive!

Hope you've enjoyed :)
