Afternoon lovelies :)
So, today I tried (and failed) to go through and de-clutter my make-up collection. I've actually ended up rediscovering some neglected pieces that I couldn't possibly get rid of. I also come across my beloved nail varnish collection. I have twenty six a few too many nail varnishes so I will definitely be getting rid of ones I don't use or that have gone gloopy and horrible.
HOWEVER, the ones that have taken pride of place as my most used varnishes are my ever growing Models Own collection. I discovered these a while back and fell in love on sight. There is such a vast range of colours, and at £5 a pop, very affordable. I currently own a six set of pastel colours, 4 glitter varnishes and one called 'Champagne', which is stunning!

So today, I've decided to review the pastel collection - they are the perfect spring/summer colours, so what better time to start using them again!

from L-R, Feeling Blue, Top Turquoise, Fuzzy Peach, Pastel Pink, Lilac Dream and Lemon Meringue.

Feeling Blue

This is my favourite of the collection. It is a beautiful, brilliant blue Creme with the most perfect consistency. In this picture, I am wearing just one coat! I don't class this as a typical 'pastel' shade, I think a softer, baby blue would be more fitting as a pastel colour. Nonetheless, I adore this nail varnish, I actually like to use this as a pop of colour to a plain outfit.

Top Turquoise

The pictures really do not do this polish justice. It is a stunning, rich turquoise, unlike any colour I've seen in a polish before. It reminds me of warm, tropical oceans so this will definitely be getting lots of wear this summer! I applied two coats in this picture, although one coat was a substantial, even coat, I felt that it looked extra vibrant and true to the colour in the bottle with a second coat.

Fuzzy Peach

This is probably my least favourite shade of the collection. Again, it looks slightly different in the flesh than in these pictures, but the colour just doesn't bode well with me. The colour in the bottle is beautiful, but on the nails it is more of a bright orange tone, rather than a soft, pastel peach shade. It is still a beautiful polish, just not my personal fave.

Pastel Pink

I really, REALLY love this colour. It is the perfect candy pink, in fact the colour in the bottle and on the nails reminds me of Barbie! It's light but still stands out. I applied two coats and it left a very opaque, shiny finish. This is a pretty, girly shade that I look forward to wearing come summer!

Lilac Dream

Okay, maybe this is my favourite shade! This really is a dream in a bottle, I've been searching high and low for a pretty lilac colour forever, and this has really impressed me! I think the name is so apt for this polish, it's so, so pretty and very pigmented.

Yellow Meringue

I've only owned one yellow polish before, but this is by far the best of the two. I thought this would need several coats because it is such a light colour, but surprisingly, it only needed two coats! This is a lovely, sunny colour that makes me feel all bright and happy putting it on (cheesy, I know). It's a cool tone and even thought it is a pastel shade, I find this a really striking colour and have got several compliments wearing this shade!

Overall, I highly recommend these polishes. I was particularly impressed with the pigmentation of these pastel shades, I thought they would all need several coats to achieve a vibrant colour. But, the majority of them only need a couple of coats for a beautiful, opaque finish and there is such a variety of colour! Another plus is that even after a good few days of wear, my nails don't chip AND they're quick drying (good for me, because I'm rather impatient haha). Considering these nail varnishes are just £5 each, the quality is excellent. I have a couple of higher end nail varnishes that cost double the price but do the exact same job, so for me, Models Own is the best of both, because they don't skimp on quality for quantity.

I hope you have all enjoyed my Models Own Pastel collection review! Please recommend any other brands you think are equally as good in a similar price range!

  1. Hey Kelly :) Just stumbled across your blog.
Good for you having the patience to photograph all of these on your nails! Haha, I haven't tried any models own nail polishes but the turquoise and purple look similar to some Barry M ones that I have :) xxx
