Wow.. It's been 2 whole years since I posted! In my defence, I've had lots happening and have literally had no time to blog but I felt this was a perfect outlet for this particular topic!

As a massively growing trend, I wanted to share my personal experience on Micro Ring hair extensions. They are a fairly recent innovation and have surged in popularity over recent months. Having never heard of them and having always wanted long, thick beautiful hair, I was intrigued when I saw a couple of friends putting up pictures on Facebook of their new 'Micro Rings' and having instant length, thickness and volume.

I'm fairly new to the world of extensions; I have dabbled in clip-in extensions through my teens (which were poorly matched and quite poor quality) but after chopping off my fairly lengthy hair at around aged 15, I stuck to a shoulder length style for a good few years. My hair is quite fine and grows around 0.5 inches per month - it is a slow rate of growth, and even at a decent length it is quite lacklustre and tends to look straggly. So hair extensions seemed to be a perfect solution. I did lots of research - I did not stumble across the first hairdresser I could find and just get them. I asked friends who had them, I asked my own hairdresser (a previous Toni and Guy senior stylist and colourist - she is amazing, but unfortunately doesn't do hair extensions) and did lots of online research. I eventually narrowed my choice down to 2 hairdressers - at the time I had my extensions fitted (March 2014) they seemed to be fairly revolutionary and I couldn't seem to find a lot of hairdressers that specialised in Micro Rings. After some more research and looking through galleries I eventually settled on a stylist and arranged a consultation appointment.

Consultation day:
I turned up for my appointment. She's a mobile hairdresser but informed me that she found it easier to work from her own home as she had everything she needed there.. fair enough. So I turned up and honestly… It was very brief. I had expected to be there for a while but I was in and out within about ten minutes. She told me how much it would be, colour matched me and I was on my way.

On the day:
Again, turned up, fresh hair not styled. And she went to work. It..was.. PAINFUL. I was taken aback by it. The method of Micro Rings involves combining strands of extension hair with your natural hair using a copper ring through a plastic loop, and using special pliers to tighten it. It was very tight, very uncomfortable but I believed it would be worth the pain - us girls know beauty comes at a price! She ordered 5 bags of hair each containing 25 strands (125 strands in total) but they had come in different lengths as the lighter colour was only available in 22inch whilst the darker tone had been 18inch. So after all the extensions had been applied (with the exception of about ten, which were given to me to keep as 'spares') they were trimmed and cut into to make them blend in naturally with my own hair. She then curled them using a brush and hairdryer. The whole process took just under 3 hours and this was the result:

So, there's some definite length added! But I must confess, this style was NOT for me, I absolutely hated these on the first day. I went home and (nearly) cried to my boyfriend terrified that I had just wasted my money. They did however settle down after the first day and once I'd straightened them they looked much more to my liking. And I must say, I started to fall in love with them! For about a month I loved my new long hair. But then.. they started falling out. I was informed anywhere from 1-10 extensions was a normal rate of falling out - I had about 25 come out. I was furious. But she put them back in for free so I went off happy to give them another chance. Pfft. Another 40 come out and I was furious times a million. Not only did I have to put up with the fallout which made my hair look horribly thin, I had to wait a good few weeks to get them sorted at a 3.5 month maintenance appointment. I had them up until about 2 weeks ago when I finally had them removed. I got in touch with another lovely woman named Dawn who has the cutest little home salon and specialises in hair extensions and she was pretty appalled at the state of my extensions.
I am planning to get new extensions when I have the money (very soon!) and booked a consultation. It lasted about an hour and a half - we discussed everything! Dawn goes into so much detail about matching extensions to your exact colour and texture, she showed me lots of samples of different types of hair and even different types of micro rings that are suitable for different types of hair. Before I had my extensions removed, Dawn added three of her own extension strands using three different ring types to see which best suited my hair. I was so taken aback by how much detail went into this consultation, Dawn put me at such ease and I just knew these extensions were going to look amazing.

Ladies, let me give you a piece of advice if you are looking to get extensions - if a price seems to good to be true or a 'bargain' DO NOT DO IT. I paid £215 for my original extensions and having never paid for extensions before I thought this was reasonable, but you pay for what you get - and if you're paying anything under £300 at least, it is probably too good to be true. My new set of extensions will cost me £330 but this is a price I am more than willing to pay for the results I know I'll get. I know this has been a super long post but I know I'd have loved information like this before getting mine done.

Has anyone else had any positive/negative experiences with Micro Ring extensions?
If you have any questions please feel free to ask :)

Models Own: Mirrorball

Hello lovelies! Seeing as I now have so much time on my hands, I figured I could finally get around to reviewing the (few too many) new Models Own polishes I've accumulated (I know I'm so behind with this collection!).
Models Own Mirrorball Collection has been reviewed and swatched countless times, and although I won't be bringing anything new to the table, I thought it couldn't hurt to add some swatches of my own and my opinion on 2 of my favourites from the collection, Disco Inferno and Hot Stuff. I, of course, bought the whole collection, but seeing as they have already been raved about on the blog world, I didn't feel the need to swatch them all.

Disco Inferno - a combination of gold, orange and green shredded and holographic glitter in a clear polish. This is beautiful! I was drawn to this one as soon as I saw it and it has not disappointed. I can't wait to experiment with this over some different base colours. I think this would look great over a light pink and I've seen a lot of swatches with this over black that looks amazing.

Hot Stuff - this might be my absolute favourite of the collection. It has different sized shards of pink and gold glitter. I applied two coats over one coat of Models Own Lili's Pink here and I think it looks beautiful. The mixture of chunky, diamond shape glitter and holographic glitter is so pretty and unique!

The Mirrorball Collection was love at first sight for me. They are absolutely stunning and very unique. I will say however, they have a very distinctive odour which is pretty unpleasant to work with and they are an absolute PAIN to remove! That being said, they are a most welcome set to my growing Models Own collection and I can't wait to experiment with different base colours.

What did everyone else think of the collection? Hit or miss? Have you all picked up any of the Wonderland collection?

I actually cannot believe it's been over 3 months since my last post :(
Although, believe me when I say, I've had my fair share of excuses. A very poorly mumma which entailed lots of trips to hospital and a very 'close call' situation and now *drum roll please* a hospital trip for me! I won't go into tremendous detail at this time, mainly because I don't HAVE tremendous detail until tomorrow but something has been found in my stomach that shouldn't be there and I will have to have an operation. Scary stuff.

So, currently NO beauty related or otherwise posts. But I will have lots of time to recover so hopefully inspiration for a post will hit sooner or later!

REVIEW: Christian Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup

Hello ladies! In my foundation post a few days ago I mentioned that I was going to do an extensive review of my most recent foundation purchase - Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup. And here it is!
I was actually recommended this foundation by a good friend after I said that I would like to invest in a higher end foundation because, aside from my MAC F&B, my foundations are all high street. Now, whilst I believe that the quality of some high street foundations are good enough to rival higher end ones, I have trouble with the colour range of most because I am so pale! So, off I trotted to Debenhams to try this out for myself and decide whether it was worth parting with the cash. The MUA (who was so lovely!) tried it on in the shade 010 and I was pretty much sold.

Colour
The colour range of this particular foundation isn't great - I mean, it's okay, but there is definitely room for improvement. Dior's shades are, however, very simple to understand and are number coded according to skin tones.

0 = neutral undertones
1 = yellow undertones
2 = pink undertones
3 = peach undertones

So, shade 020 would be neutral, 021 would be yellow, 022 would be pink and 023 would be peach etc. Very straightforward. I got this in 010 (Ivory) which is a great colour match for me, and the lightest in the range.

Formula
I adore the formula of this foundation. It is beautifully silky and smooth and glides on my skin like a dream. Not at all thick or cakey, probably due to it's "unique blend of 100% natural mineral pigments and Dior’s innovative Mineralized Water". It contains nearly 40% water, which means it is very thin and silky - it does not sit heavily on the skin but rather blends in seamlessly and leaves the skin glowing and natural. What I really love about this is it really does feel hydrating, which is perfect for me because my skin is on the dry side. The finish is very natural and leaves my skin looking healthy and glowing. I've used both fingers and brushes with this and the finish is beautiful with either method. I personally prefer results from my new Real Techniques Stippling Brush.

Coverage
I would describe this as a light-medium coverage. It is not sheer, as the name may lead you to believe, but it is still quite light and as previously stated, doesn't leave my face feeling like it has layers of makeup on. It evens out skin tone beautifully and will cover minor imperfections. I've yet to use concealer with this, mainly because I've not had a blemish but because my skin is in pretty good nick, this foundation coverage works great for me.

Price
A slight downfall? For a 1oz bottle, this cost £31. Pricey, yes, but it is definitely to be expected from a brand name such as Christian Dior and in my opinion, is worth every penny of that price tag. It is on the higher end of the price scale and definitely the most expensive foundation I own, but worth the money and a definite repurchase for me.

Longevity
This actually lasted very well! Managed to stay looking flawless after walking in both ridiculous heat and bitter winds (yes, the weather changes that drastically in a short space of time here...). Great staying power with no touch ups, only maybe a powder touch up on the t-zone. I would say potential to last up to 9-10 hours.

Overall opinion?
In case you cannot already tell, I LOVE this foundation. Other than the price tag, I don't think I've found any flaws in this whatsoever. I would say if you are looking for a fuller coverage, this WON'T be the foundation for you, but if you are looking for a lightweight formula to even out skin tone and cover minor imperfections, this will do the trick. I really love the way this makes my skin feel - like I'm not wearing makeup and the flawless, healthy appearance it gives. It also has SPF10, so perfect all year round! My new HG :)

Thanks for reading!

NOTD - Models Own Emerald City

I've owned this nail polish for several months but for some reason, never used it. It is STUNNING!

How beautiful is this polish? The photos don't quite do it justice, it is so sparkly and pretty in real life! I used 3 coats to get it completely opaque, 2 did the job just fine but the third really made it pop. Another hit from Model's Own!
Are there any Models Own polishes that you would recommend to add to my growing collection? Or any other brands you would recommend?
